Finding Your Size

Hats & Headbands

Every hat and headband I make is sized by head circumference. Here's how to measure:

  1. Wrap a soft measuring tape around your head, about 1" above your ears and across your forehead — right where a hat would sit.
  2. Keep the tape snug but not tight. Note the measurement in inches.

Use the chart below to find your size:

Size Head Circumference
S / Baby–Toddler 16"–18"
M / Child 18"–20"
L / Adult Small–Medium 20"–22"
XL / Adult Large 22"–24"

Not sure? Most adult women wear 21"–22" and most adult men wear 22"–23". When in between sizes, size up for a relaxed fit or size down for a snugger fit. Headbands have natural stretch — if you're between sizes, the smaller size will hold its shape better.

Apparel

Each garment listing includes its own finished measurements. Here's how to use them:

  • Chest/Bust: Measure around the fullest part of your chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. Compare to the listed garment measurement — I recommend 1"–3" of ease for a relaxed fit.
  • Length: Measured from the top of the shoulder seam straight down to the hem.
  • Sleeve length: Measured from the shoulder seam to the cuff.

Handmade crochet and knit garments have natural stretch and drape that can differ from woven fabrics. When in doubt, reach out — I'm happy to help you find the right fit before you order.

Caring for Your Handmade Pieces

A little gentle care goes a long way. Here's what I recommend for each fiber type:

Cotton (including summer apparel & cotton headbands)

  • Hand wash in cool water with a gentle soap, or machine wash on a delicate/hand-wash cycle in a mesh laundry bag.
  • Lay flat to dry — cotton can stretch when hung wet.
  • If needed, tumble dry on low for a short cycle, then remove promptly.
  • Cotton softens beautifully with washing over time.

Wool & Wool Blends

  • Hand wash only in cool water with a wool-safe soap (like Eucalan or Soak). Do not agitate.
  • Gently squeeze out water — never wring or twist.
  • Roll in a clean dry towel to remove excess moisture, then reshape and lay flat to dry.
  • Store folded, not hung, to keep the shape.

Acrylic & Acrylic Blends

  • Machine wash on a gentle cycle in cool water.
  • Tumble dry on low, or lay flat to dry.
  • Acrylic is durable and holds its color well — great for everyday wear.

General Tips for All Handmade Items

  • Turn garments inside out before washing to protect the texture.
  • Avoid fabric softener on wool — it can break down the fibers.
  • Reshape while damp and always dry flat to maintain the original dimensions.
  • Store clean to prevent moths (especially for wool pieces).
